Initiation as club secretary less daunting thanks to Kiwanis training

A few weeks prior to the 2010 Kiwanis International convention in Las Vegas, our club secretary resigned due to a new job. I was appointed as the new secretary just a few days before leaving for the convention. Although I had been in Key Club and Circle K, I had not been a Kiwanian for a whole year yet. At the convention, I fell into a two-part secretary training seminar that emphasized online resources. Those two sessions made all the difference in my success as a club officer! I learned about online reporting, where member information needed to be entered, how to communicate with the club, and more. My predecessor trained me on club details, but without the perfectly timed KI training, my initiation as secretary would have been daunting.
