The Eliminate Project and SLP–great news from the SLKP conference!

The SLKP conference took place from January 20-22 in Indianapolis with more than 200 district administrators, district chairmen and governors-elect in attendance. The Eliminate Project was made a high priority on the agenda and the activities ranged from individual SLP brainstorming sessions, a general dinner presentation and a service project specifically designed for The Eliminate Project.

On Sunday, the participants created “New Mother Kits,” which were donated to Project Home Indy, a local nonprofit in Indianapolis that serves pregnant, homeless, teenage girls.

“Kiwanis International has as its motto – Serving the Children of the World,” said Jerry Johnson, an SLP subcommittee member. “These are not just words, but state our commitment to address the needs of children in all circumstances both in other parts of the world and here at home. Here in Indianapolis we find Project Home Indy serving young mothers and their children, and we as Kiwanians want to open our hearts to them in a moment of support that we hope can be continued. In other parts of the world, Kiwanis is partnering with UNICEF who shares this same vision.”

The participants are now eager to identify service projects and fundraising events in their local communities for The Eliminate Project. We look forward to seeing some of these projects take action soon and be sharing the stories with you. If you have any ideas for events, please let us know by responding to this blog post.
