After more than 30 combined years of service and commitment to Kiwanis International, Mary and Dick Langdon made an extraordinary commitment to The Eliminate Project through their Lead Gift of US$100,000.
Mary Langdon, a Kiwanis International Foundation trustee, recently returned from a site visit to Sierra Leone as a member of The Eliminate Project delegation. While in Sierra Leone, the delegation of 10 donors and staff witnessed first-hand the efforts to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus and the work of our partner, UNICEF, in action. From November 21 – 27, Mary had the rare opportunity to witness a turning point in global public health as she observed the third and final round of a recent immunization campaign that could lead to Sierra Leone being validated as having eliminated MNT.
The experience reaffirmed her respect for UNICEF and the work they are doing in vulnerable communities around the world.
“If UNICEF and its partners in Sierra Leone can inspire 6,000 volunteers to travel this country to rid it of tetanus, we can raise the funds they need to complete their work.”
As a multi-division coordinator in the Nebraska-Iowa District, Mary is also counted among the more than 700 Kiwanians who have already joined The Eliminate Project as campaign leaders. With their gift of US$100,000, Mary and Dick Langdon will save or protect more than 55,000 lives.
